Chile - Valparaiso, Santiago and Atacama-Desert

Von La Serena und dem Elqui-Tal fuhren wir dann nach Weihnachten richtung Sueden, nach Valparaiso und Viña del Mar, um einerseits den Strand, aber auch das groesste Feuerwerk Chiles am Neujahr zu geniessen...

From La Serena and the Elqui-Valley, we took the bus further South again, to Valparaiso and Viña del Mar, to enjoy the beach once more, but also to see the country's biggest fireworks on New Year's Eve...

... entsprechend gefuellt war der Strand - das Bild ist noch relativ frueh am Tag - am spaeteren Nachmittag sah man keinen Sand mehr!! Und dies obwohl das Wasser aufgrund des Humboldt-Stromes recht kalt war...

We were definitely not the only ones who had this idea... The beach was full - the picture is taken relatively early in the day - later in the afternoon one could not see the sand anymore!!





Valparaiso is famous for its Cerros - and the Ascensores that bring you up to the top. Although not very safe-looking, we decided to take one to watch the fireworks from the top of one of the hills!!


Valparaiso ist beruehmt fuer seine Cerros (Huegel) - und die Lifte, die einen hinaufbringen. Obwohl diese nicht sehr sicher aussahen, haben wir dann doch einen genommen, um das Neujahrs-Feuerwerk von oben zu geniessen!!




Es war dann auch unglaublich!! Nach einem superfeinen Nachtessen mit einer entsprechenden Menge Champagner und Wein, standen wir mit Tausenden von Chilenen auf einer Terrasse und bestaunten das halbstuendige Feuerwerk ueber der Bucht von Valparaiso und Viña del Mar. Leider sind die Fotos etwas verschwommen, was jedoch nichts mit der Kamera zu tun hatte...

After a delicious dinner with a "few" glasses of Champagne and wine, we stood on a terrace with thousands of Chilenos to admire the 30 minutes of the country's biggest fireworks above the bay of Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. Unfortunately, the pix are a bit "dizzy" which was obviously was not the problem of the camera...


After the beach, we then went to Santiago were we booked a hotel close to Plaza de Armas in the centre (they were still celebrating x-mas when we arrived on 1 January) where we felt like moving to Gotham City...

Nach dem Strand und Neujahr, fuhren wir nach Santiago de Chile, der Hauptstadt Chiles, wo wir ein Hotel gleich neben dem Plaza de Armas im Zentrum gebucht hatten - dort fuehlten wir uns als ob wir in Gotham City eingezogen waeren...




Da das meiste geschlossen war am 1.1., konnten wir nicht mehr viel machen - einzig warten auf Luca, der am naechsten Morgen auch in Santiago ankommen sollte!!

As most of the shops and attractions were closed, we could only wait for Luca to arrive the next morning!!


And here he is!!!! A well-deserved beer - and welcome to the Summer, Luca!!



Und hier ist er endlich!!!! Ein wohlverdientes Bier bei wohlig-sommerlichen Temperaturen im Herzen Santiagos - unser gemeinsames Suedamerika-Abentuer konnte beginnen!!







Alle 3 vereint - so machten wir uns auf Entdeckungsreise in Santiago - schliesslich hatten wir uns auch einiges zu erzaehlen!!!

All 3 finally together - and such we went to explore Santiago - god, we had to catch up on so many things!!!








After two days in the capital, we flew to Antofagasta in the North of Chile from where we had to take a bus to San Pedro de Atacama, a small, but very touristy village in the middle of the desert.

Nch 2 Tagen in der Hauptstadt flogen wir nach Antofagasta im Norden Chiles, von wo aus wir einen Bus nach San Pedro de Atacama, einem kleinen, aber sehr touristischen Dorf inmitten der Atacama-Wueste nehmen mussten.



Gut hatten wir endlich jemanden, der auf unsere Koffer aufpasste... ;-) Luca scheint die Wartezeit dementsprechend auch recht zu geniessen...

Finally we had someone to watch our luggage - Luca seems to really enjoy the waiting time... ;-)















After quite a long bus ride, we finally arrived in San Pedro - beautiful landscape with Volcano Licancabur towering over the village.

As our bus arrived nearly two hours late, the hostel did not keep our reservations - so we had to look for a room, late at night, during high season...



Nach einer relativ langen Busfahrt kamen wir dann endlich spaetabends in San Pedro de Atacama an - wunderschoene Landschaften mit dem Vulkan Licancabur, der ueber dem kleinen Dorf trohnt.

Da unser Bus knapp 2 Stunden Verspaetung hatte, strich das Hostel unsere Reservation und so mussten wir uns spaetabends nach einer anderen Unterkunft umschauen - was nicht gerade einfach war waehrend der Hochsaison...

Bevor wir uns nach Bolivien aufmachten, gingen wir aber noch reiten. Die Tour in's Valle de Luna machte dann auch extrem Spass!!
