Australia - Adelaide to Melbourne

Nach unserer West- und Nordaustralischen Wildnisphase kamen wir mit Adelaide in die Gourmetphase ....

Apart from the fantastic food, the wine museum is the best, Adelaide has to offer. You learn about winemaking and then can create your own wine. To the left, Marcos "results". (Mine was "appalling". More likely to be sold at garden centres.....")

Im Weinmuseum von Adelaide wurden wir auf die kommenden Tage im Barossa Valley eingestimmt. Man konnte sogar interaktiv seinen eigenen Wein kreieren. Links, Marcos Weinkreation (mein Resultat war "scheusslich")

Mit unserem kleinen Mietauto fuhren wir ins Barossa Valley - beautiful Barossa Valley, which we explored with a small Hyundai - as cheap as you can get...












The Barossa Valley was discovered for winemaking by German immigrants. There is still a lot of German tradition around: here at our lunch in the Lyndoch Bakery.

Die ersten Weinbauern waren Deutsche Immi-granten. Natuerlich genossen wir die deutschen Wurstplatten in vollen Zuegen.

The big ones, like Jacobs Creek (or Orlando Winery) were rather disappointing, but the smaller ones such as Willows, Rockford, Grant Burge, Jenke were amazing!!!!!

Die grösseren Weinhersteller, wie z.B. Jacobs Creek, waren eher entäuschend.... Aber unter den Kleineren waren einige Juwelen!!! Willows, Rockford, Grant Burge, Jenke - genial!!

Vom Barossa Valley fuhren wir dann ueber eine weitere beruehmte Weingegend - das McLaren Vale - zu den 12 Aposteln in Port Campbell, kurz nach Beginn der Great Ocean Road und schafften es gerade noch rechtzeitig fuer das obligate Sonnenuntergangs-Foeteli!


From the winetasting in the Barossa Valley, we drove via another famous South Australian Wine region - the McLaren Vale - to the 12 Apostels near Port Campbell, at the beginning of the Great Ocean Road, right in time for another sunset shot...


Did you know: The Great Ocean Road was built shortly after WWI in remembrance of the Australian soldiers that fell during the war.

Hast Du gewusst: Die Great Ocean Road wurde kurz nach dem 1. Weltkrieg in Erinnerung an die gefallenen australischen Soldaten gebaut.

Nahe der Great Ocean Road fuhren wir durch die Otway Ranges, welche einen wunderschoenen 'tempered rainforest' beherbergen.

Nati und Marco mehr als 25m ueber dem Boden, zwischen den Baumwipfel des Otway Flys, welcher die Australier mitten in den Wald hineingebaut haben, um die Baumwipfel der 'Waldriesen' besser erforschen zu koennen - und nicht zuletzt Touristen die Moeglichkeit zu geben, den Wald hautnah mitzuerleben! - Fuer mehr Infos, klicke hier...








Nahe bei Melbourne beim Cape Otway - der aelteste Leuchtturm des australischen Kontinents. Und er funktioniert auch heute noch - http://www.lightstation.com/

A nearby Koala colony - they were not that easy to spot, but Natalie, of course, spotted several of them with ease...

Nahe beim Leuchtturm gibt es eine Koala-Kolonie - und anscheinend ist es nicht allzu einfach diese zu sehen, da sie eher scheu sind - aber mit Natalies Glueck haben wir natuerlich gleich mehrere gesichtet!!

Also on the Great Ocean Road - Apollo Bay, Lorne and their famous Surf beaches - on the right the beach of Apollo Bay (check out Bell Beach in Torquay where they have waves up to 6m high and every year world-famous surf contests...)

Nach einer Woche im Barossa Valley und auf der Great Ocean Road kamen wir dann in Melbourne an. Eine Woche zu frueh, da der AFL Grand Final erst am 30. September stattfand...

Dafuer genossen wir aber sonst diese herrliche Stadt!! - Im Hintergrund links die verschiedenen Sportstadien in Melbourne, gepraegt vom neu renovierten und vergroesserten MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) mit einer Kapazitaet von fast 100'000 (fuer Interessierte geht's hier zur website...) ...


After one week in the Barossa Valley and on the Great Ocean Road, we finally arrived in Melbourne - unfortunatelky one week too early, as the AFL Grand Final was not before 30 September - and god, Chelsey and Jacko, the West Coast Eagles won!!! Congratulations!!




Wir haben es uns natuerlich nicht nehmen lassen, dieses geschichtstraechtige Stadion zu besuchen...

Next to the MCG, the home of Roger Federer: The Rod Laver Arena (website)... Sure he will win also next year's Australian Open... ;-)

Gleich neben dem MCG ist der Centre Court des Rod Laver Arena (Website), wo Roger Federer schon so viele Erfolge gefeiert hat.

The pier in St. Kilda - don't know why, but it rained each and every time we went down there... Pity, but still very nice!


Der Bootsteg gleich neben dem Strand in St.Kilda, ein Vorort von Melbourne. Jedes Mal wenn wir dort runtergingen regnete es... Naja, ein Grund mehr, all die 'netten' Cafes an der Promenade auszuprobieren...






Unser letzter Abend in Melbourne, respektive in Australien, hier an der Brunswick Street. Und wie es traditionsgemaess bis jetzt immer der Fall war, goennten wir uns ein richtiges Abendessen mit entsprechendem feinen Wein, gell Nati...!! ;-)
Den Abend begonnen haben wir in einer kleinen Bar...

We spent our last evening in Brunswick Street, famous for nice restaurants and bars, parties and good wine. And as on every last evening in any country on our worldtrip, we indulged in a delicious dinner with the suitable wines, of course! We started off in a small bar...




... and landed in a Spanish restaurant (click here) with tapas and Flamenco dancers - and a Swiss waitress, Sylvana from Zurich - was nice meeting you, Sylvana!


... und landeten schliesslich in einem Spanischen Restaurant (klicke hier) mit feinen Tapas, Flamenco-Taenzern/-innen und Sylvana, einer Schweizerin, die im Restaurant arbeitet.
